Changing Your Home to Open Plan Living

Most regular people can’t afford to live in an enormous house, making it important that they are able to make the most of their own space. Open plan living has provided a way for people to really maximise the amount of space they have by eliminating barriers and connecting key areas of your home. Even the most boxed in and dingy home can be made to feel twice as big by finding the right ways to open it up, because no matter how small your place is, it can always look a little bigger. If you have decided that it’s time to open things up and make the most of every inch at your place, the following are some of the best ways to go about it.

Build a patios

With your own patios you will be able to totally open up and expand your entertaining area into the outdoors. Your enlarged entertaining area will provide far more options for relaxing and entertaining, and if done well, can provide a seamless integration of all the best elements of indoor and outdoor living. Having a patio will mean you have a space to open out to, rather than just having windows to open like most other people.

Knock down a wall or two

A dramatic though effective way to move your home towards a more open plan is to strategically knock down a wall or two. This can make a place look huge and connect several entertaining areas, such as the living room, dining room, family room or great room. You only really need for your bedroom and bathroom areas to be private, so why not open the rest of it up?

Open up the kitchen

Finding a way to connect your kitchen to the rest of the house is vital to any open living plan. Isolated kitchens can feel like cramped, sad and lonely places, so you may have to knock down a wall to open it all up. Otherwise, you can sometimes get away with creating a large hole or window between the kitchen and the adjoining room, so at least you can stay in touch with the rest of the house and feel like you are still able to hang out while you are cooking.

Put in a sliding door

Rather than have a regular narrow door heading out to your backyard, open it right up and switch it for a sliding glass door. Being able to see your yard will make your home look and feel way bigger, and the extra light you get will do wonders for your overall health and happiness.

By utilising a more open plan for your home, you will feel like you finally have a bit of space to properly unwind, or to let loose with your friends when you get those rare chances. Your home will look and feel larger, and often all it takes is a couple of strategic moves to do it. If you don’t feel like you have the space to properly relax at home, you’ll feel a lot better if you open it up.
